Telefonica subsidiary to offer innovative, high-added-value solutions using NAVTEQ maps

MADRID, Spain, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation, location-based solutions and business applications, and Maptel Networks, a Telefonica subsidiary offering digital maps and geographic information solutions, have announced the signing of an agreement which will allow the latter to consolidate its range of high-added-value mapping products. The agreement involves the joint marketing and development of high-quality mapping solutions and services for the Spanish market.

The pact represents a milestone in the analytical map data sector, allowing a planning and marketing tool widely employed by the distribution, retail, banking, insurance, government and other sectors to be used with external computer systems and databases.

Maptel will focus on developing high-added-value mapping solutions and services, while NAVTEQ, the leading provider of digital maps for in-car navigation systems in Europe and North America, will step up its mapping output.

The agreement aims to allow Maptel to provide its customers with complete continuity, access to NAVTEQ's extensive map data catalogue in 59 countries, and support for international expansion using innovative technology. Maptel also plans to build on new added-value solutions developed by NAVTEQ, such as data inventories, aerial photography and 3D city maps.
