GZ; Sorry, I just thought you would find it interesting - especially given your Vietnam connection. If I tell it in my own words someone will always claim I have put my own spin to the article - which I suppose is natural. So since you asked and in my own words;

The article in Discovery titled Dead Man Walking, talks about the good and bad consequences of medical care in Iraq. The new type of injury in Iraq is TBI(traumatic brain injury). The injuries are a consequence of roadside bombs whereby the soldier lives but has brain injuries - often their only injury. The injuries are particularly nasty. The good part of the article is of course the care given to service men today as compared to Vietnam. It is excellant!! The bad is what happens to these men when they return to the States. Some will need care for the rest of their lives and the cost (not a problem to me) is huge. I'll quote the last paragraph; ........"The military has done a spectacular job repairing bodies, but has not yet learned how to put lives back together. "More lives are being saved," says Bolles. "At the same time, those that are being saved are the more critically injured. There's a higher incidence of permanently disabled people." America isn't prepared for the injured's medical demands. After the dreamteam care is finished. soldiers are finding themselves trapped in a nightmare. .........From page 61.
