10/01: Intel Won't Discuss 3rd-Quarter Earnings Until Oct. 14 Release Date

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Intel Corp. said Wednesday that it doesn't plan to disclose any news about its third-quarter earnings until it is scheduled to release them on Oct. 14, according to a company spokesman.

There had been some market rumors earlier that the chip maker was going to hold a conference call with analysts Wednesday afternoon and discuss the results, but the spokesman said that wasn't the case.

Late Tuesday, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) said its third-quarter loss would be wider than anticipated. Intel holds a large lead over Advanced Micro in the market for microprocessors, considered the brains of the computer.

Intel's shares also slipped modestly Tuesday after a Merrill Lynch & Co. analyst said he expects the company's third quarter to meet the low end of Wall Street earnings expectations, market sources said.

Wall Street has a consensus third-quarter earnings estimate of 91 cents a share for the computer-chip maker. The estimates range from 84 cents a share to $1, according to Zacks Investment Research Inc.

Intel's (INTC) shares closed up 94 cents, or 1%, Wednesday at $93.25.
