@Doug - Barcelona " They said no *financial impact* until Q4, and no significant *financial impact* until 2008. "
Seems like you want to quote wrong - why? Is the truth not good for Intel? I will repeat that for you again:
Question: CRN: You mentioned the importance of Barcelona. What will be its impact on AMD this year?
(did you saw the word financial here?)
Answer: RUIZ: This is an incredibly important product transition. We don't expect the ramp [this year] to be dramatic because it's a new core, new micro architecture and platform. The biggest impact it will have is that we'll see a large number of customers and partners align themselves behind the technology. We expect that ramp to follow along the same lines as when Opteron began to get adopted. So I expect it to follow the same patterns. Over 2007, it will have a significant impact on what I call design wins. People are committed to the architecture and product, and [it will be] a very significant part of revenue and earning in 2008.
(I don't saw a quote, where Hector said no financial impact untill 2008 - do you? Seems like your blue colored glassed put a few assumed words into the text)
" Q3 volume will depend *when* in Q3 they start to sell them. You are off by an order of magnitude. I'd expect 10-50K (and I'm being *very* generous with the high-end) Barc QC units in Q3. "
Its clear, that they wanted to launch in Q2. I expect first shipments in Q2 (I use the Intel phrase here) with Revs coming in instantly from the beginning of Q3 on.
When we speak about the Opteron launch you have to take into account the whole situation at this point. AMD had ZERO servershare and many OEMs were Intel-only, especially all the Serverguys. Furthermore the whole platform was new. At this point of time, the situation is completly different. Its clear , that QC will not go instantly to 50% of all servershipments, but I assume, that they could reach instantly 10%. It will mostly depend on customer demand. I really don't know, if all the users are that keen for QC - ask them. So it could be, that AMD reaches "only" 50K - we will have to see. If the new ones get good (old) ASPs, 50Mio. would be not that far off, when I use only this number. Its up to everyone to come to an conclusion. Be sure, that your guess is too low - enough said.
