So you think that if the mysterious MSM started reporting the war as WON, WON, WON! we'd "win" this war, whatever win means?
The MSM didn't report WWII as WON, WON, WON! in 1942 or 1943. Indeed, they had to cover up losses the like of which we have never seen in this war. BUT they did report the war on-going, not lost; noted Allied progress where it happened; and generally expressed a preference that the Allies win over the Axis.
Today's reporter feels that it is his job not to express a preference that the Americans win over AQ suicide bombers, and to be non-judgemental between AQ and the Marines. Except if he can catch some Marines committing a crime. Only then can he be judgemental, and how! Marines kill civilians? Let the judgements flow! AQ kill civilians? dog bites man, no story.
But the core of the story is that the Marines are fighting for civilization, and AQ suicide bombers are fighting for a barbarous religious dictatorship.
If the reporters would remember to mention THAT story I do think both Western and Muslim support for the WOT would be much higher than it is today. Which is essentially what Tony Blair is also saying.
The Iraqi Sunnis are kicking them out for reasons of their own and those reasons have nothing to do with supporting the Shiite majority government or protecting Americas interests. The only reason the Sunnis even tolerated them was because they were killing American soldiers.
Now you are being too silly. When Iraqis ally themselves with the Americans for reasons of their own, it doesn't count? Of course it counts. Same way it counts when Iraqis kill Americans for reasons of their own. Talk about a 'heads I win, tails you lose' kind of reckoning!
Some of the Sunnis sympathized with AQ and wanted to kill American soldiers. Some of the Sunnis tolerated AQ because AQ killed a bunch of their sheikhs and gave them no choice. Now more of the Sunni leaders in Anbar are waking up to reality and switching alliances. AQ is losing in Anbar. I even heard it reported on NPR the other day, so it must be true. ;-) |
