Nuclear power only pays off for the first generation or so. After that it's only an expense

If you don't see that your position on nuclear is untenable, I won't waste time trying to change your mind. It is the obvious answer to the carbon problem, and is now being pushed by environmentalists who used to oppose it. The "waste" problem is a red herring. The only people using your argument anymore are the ones who just refuse to agree that we will be using increasing amounts of energy. Wind is a Chimera. A solution that will never take care of our needs.

The history of civilization is a history of our increasing ability to organize energy. That's what humans do. We are an open, thermodynamic system. History shows that we have consistently gone for denser and denser ways to use it. From wood, to coal, to oil and gas, and now to nuclear. The amount of energy available to us is, for all practical purposes, infinite.

People today who have some understanding of this split into two camps. Those who love this fact, and revel in it, and those who oppose and are afraid of it. Fortunately, the masses, who don't understand and appreciate this, do want their toys to work. And will come down on my side.

We are going though a good exercise in this right now here in the islands. They passed a measure last year to start separating trash, a measure that those in the know, know is an economic loser. This week the Government told them that if they wanted it, they would have to go from two general trash pickups a week to one, or pay an extra $10 a week for two pickups. Guess what the outcry from the masses was. :>)
