Whoops, made the wrong figure negative with parens. Meant to say that $1.62 to $3.78 is the profit after getting the corn. The cost of the corn ranges from paying the farmer $.78 per bushel to the farmer paying the ethanol producer $1.48 to take the bushel.

Production costs in this case are $0. If you want to add them in, the farmer eats the ethanol producer's production costs. Have to keep the profits the analysts are quoting!
