I think he has a point but I'm not sure it's Nokias fault. I went for a new contract with Cingular a while ago and their inventory of Nokia phones is pathetic.

The utter lack of Nokia handsets is sort of what leads me to believe that this is Nokia's doing. Cingular might want to limit the power of any one handset vendor but I doubt they want to go entirely without Nokia's brand. In particular, they are subsidizing the hell out of 3G handsets right now, but the industry leader is nowhere to be found. Of course, I dont really understand what exactly Cingular does that Nokia finds so hard to implement. The N75 was designed for the US, has the right bands and has a long list of people waiting for its release....but it looks delayed indefinitely right now.

Is Nokia delaying the release of 3G handsets in the US until after the April license expiration? This might give them a bit of a leg up (in terms of timing) in the suits that will follow. If that was the case, they would be taking quite a risk with Cingular. I wonder if the lack of handsets from Nokia may have played a part in their decision to go with MediaFLO instead of DVB-H. The economies of scale in the GSM/WCDMA world dont mean much if you dont have Nokia in your lineup.
