In Windows Vista it is now possible to resize
partitions without any data loss in the new Disk Management console even without rebooting Windows. Windows Disk Management console now allows users to shrink, extend, create, and format partitions. The new resizing features allow users to shrink a single partition with unused space, and then create a new partition in the resulting free space, as well as extending a current partition if there is available free space
after it.

Steps:
1. Click on the vista orb(start menu)
2. Right Click Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Accept the UAC Dialog
5. Select Disk Management on the left hand side of the Computer Management Window
6. Right Click C:\ or what ever drive leter you wish to resize.
7. Select Shrink Volume or Extend Volume.
