But the military threats the native inhabitants of that region feel, with Israel sitting there as some kind of Jewish Green Zone, and ham fisted Americans occupying their land with military bases are completely normal and natural and are the real crux of the problems there.

Hooey, Dennis. Most of what regions inhabitants have to say is due to their own elaborate sense of shame and inferiority, and their political incompetence, which has caused the actions of Israel and the US, not the other way around.

The leaders of these places know perfectly well that Israel is no damn threat to them if they would only call off the wars and the bombers. You think Israel wants to sit in a fortress instead of a Mideast Benelux?

If you look closely, you can see Saudi Arabia quietly seeking allies among those it proclaims as unmentionables, in order to protect itself from the real threat of Iran. This has happened before - cf. Jordan in 1970, but the Arabs always deny it.

Ahmadinejad may talk about it, but that's just normal demagoguery, he's no bin Lad

I don't share your assurance. Ahmedinijad is a religious nutter who believes the Mahdi is coming back within two years, and he is a charter member of a regime that used human waves of teenage boys with little plastic "keys to heaven" around their necks to clear minefields. Now there is another unemployed, restive, youth bulge in Iran. To a man like that, war looks like a solution, not a problem.
