I also like '24' quite a bit (caveat - I've only watched the 1st 4 seasons thus far - I'm watching it all on DVD). Yes, some of the torture scenes are "very off-putting". Such is the nature of the beast of the "entertainment" industry these days. However, given the situations when Jack Bauer resorts to torture, it's hard to condemn each situation.

When Jack has a known terrorist who is withholding key info about an imminent attack that could prevent the slaughter of hundreds or thousands of lives & that terrorist is unwilling to talk sans torture, then I think it is appropriate under those circumstances. Sometimes though, I think they take the torture/killing too far.
