You're right, tapping and hold is similar to right click of the mouse.

For the Routis navigation software PC version, you can click on any place on the map, and a small pull down menu would appear with an address/place, then you can conveniently specify that address/place as a new destination.

On the PDA version, tapping a POI works the way it supposes to do, and you can specify the POI as the new destination. But it only for some objects.
