It would add no bureaucracy at all.

Well, we do already have the federal Department of Education, thanks to Jimmy Carter, and no thanks to Bush for enlarging it.

But at the local level there would at least need to be a re-alignment of the existing agencies, if not an actual increase, due to a change in function.

On the other hand, improved education is worth spending more money. Also, with more kids in private schools, the public schools would need fewer workers, so there's a tradeoff.

That's why people who can afford it move to the suburbs and send their kids to better schools. Our property taxes are the highest in the metro region, but we have the best schools.

I don't mind paying up and getting more, and now that my own kids have graduated from public school, I still don't mind paying up and getting more for others.
