Most contractors are not hired by the federal government, some of them aren't even hired as part of a federal contract. Most of them don't earn over $100k. Former Seals or SAS etc. working for Blackwater make very good money, as do highly skilled technical people and people and managers, but many contractors have simpler skill sets. Most importantly many of them are Iraqis making lower pay then most other contractors.
