Headline China A-shares end morning slightly higher on technical rebound - UPDATE

SHANGHAI (XFN-ASIA) - A-shares in Shanghai and Shenzhen ended the morning slightly higher on a technical rebound after yesterday's sharp sell-off, with property and telecom stocks in favor, dealers said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A- and B-shares listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, ended the morning up 6.88 points at 2,778.67.

'The market was stabilizing after yesterday's plunges as none of the rumors are expected to come true in the near future,' said Wu Dazhong, an analyst at Shenyin Wanguo Securities.

Rumors were circulating that the government will start levying taxes on capital gains from stock investment income.

However, the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation announced today that there are no plans to levy such a tax.

'The slump is only a temporary thing. Soon people will realize that nothing has changed - liquidity is still abundant, the yuan is still rising and corporate earnings are still growing, so the long-term prospects are still promising,' Wu added.
