Quarterly guidance is done very easily at IBM. All the salesmen chase in the budget of customers into firm orders for you.

Then make sure your own purchasing tighten all the spending budget.

Stay in the shipping room to make sure everything not nailed down is shipped out ahead of time. count the accounts receivable that will soon turn to cash.

Then you have a revenue or earnings projection that you discount a percent or two for Wall Street analysts. This track record establishes a trust on Wall street for fund managers too.
