WHAT 'henhouse'?
In case you haven't noticed, Iran *already* has signed a defense treaty with the Shiite-led Iraqi government, and the ties between the two (perhaps to a lesser degree, Syria) are pretty strong... with Iranian agents represented in many/most of the Iraqi Government Ministries.
So, THAT horse has *long ago* left the barn (pretty much the minute we over-threw the Iranians' and Shiite's greatest enemy: Saddam, and put the Shiites in power).
Now, I too, don't expect much to come from the US talking to Iran and Syria... but, you never know (after all, Iran *did* signal us back in 2003 that they wanted to talk, and we shut it down...).
In any event, what's the harm?
Talk is just talk.
