"As I see it, it's these kinds of things that make non-Muslim's very concerned:

Right. And Muslims who are not supporters of the Taliban.

The fact that the Taliban attacked the base in itself isn't what ties these kinds of things to Islam. In fact, I could understand it if he would have left it at "important person", but it's the mention of "infidel" that makes the Islam link in peoples mind.

And if you are willing to blindly make that link the Taliban has used you as a tool. At this point its an education issue for some and an emotional issue for others.

"Has any American General recently threatened a person because they are such a big "non-Christian or non-Jew"? "

God I hope not... amen.

But if you consider the theocratic order of the Taliban, then you should be able to see how 'infidel' to them is equivalent to any non Taliban; much like commie, nip, gook, gerry, etc may have been for a soldier identifying an enemy of the USA in the past. Christian soldiers have done the same in history but we are not viewing our military as engaged in holy war ... at least most of us are not. I don't speak for GZ et al.
