Barb,
Its always a mystery when you see large trades in a stock. It is possible the large trades were short. Large trades are negotiated price and not at the market so unless you know the principals there isn't any way to tell if it was bid or ask. If a large order is waiting and the MM doesn't have enough inventory she can raise the bid to attract some volume and then fill the order. I suspect those large orders may have been in the system all day as day orders not GTC and a MM wanted the action before the close.
