Oh, yeah? Which policies? You mean the wasteful overspending and corruption of his military buildup? Hey, anyone remember the Sergeant York M247? That was a piece of work. Great vehicle, except it couldn't track the enemy planes, couldn't turn its turret fast enough, and couldn't even hit a drone. The kicker was that the range of the 40mm guns were shorter than the Soviet aircraft missiles!
Oh, did you mean Reagan's anti-terrorist policies? Like selling weapons to known terrorist forces - Iran - and using the ill gotten gains to fund another secret war? The scandal that resulted in the indictment of the Secretary of Defense and the conviction of some of the conspirators, including the FOX 'hero' Ollie North? Oh, and how the sale of cocaine was also used to finance this secret, illegal war?
Oh, did you mean the S&L scandal, involving, prophetically, one of the Bush brothers? And how it cost us $150 billion dollars? You mean the Reagan tax law changes and 'elimination of loopholes' policies that caused that scandal?
Or, did you mean the policies that caused the Reagan administration to have the largest number of administration officials to be indicted, convicted or resign in scandal, resulting in one of the most corrupt administrations in history?
Or, social programs like the HUD program that defrauded money from low income housing? Or, the EPA money that was diverted to Republican candidates? Or, the lobbying scandal that resulted in the conviction of Michael Deavers, Reagan's Chief of Staff?
So, you think that Reagans policies of corruption and scandal are the reason that the Soviet Union fell? Kind of a stretch, to say the least. |
