the Mafia doesn't want to kill thousands of people.

I disagree. When I think of the Mafia, I think of organized crime. I think organized crime is responsible for the killings of thousands each year in this country not to say how many more die in drug, prostitution, and related gambling deaths.

Religious zealots who have brainwashed thousands of young men into killing themselves for Allah, for whom chaos and bloodshed is an end in itself, are by nature far harder to combat.

I don't want to minimize the danger the religious zealots pose, but the point I am trying to make is that aircraft carriers, stealth bombers, cruise missiles and advanced weapons systems are not the best way to spend our money in fighting them.

I don't think religious zealots are magicians. They are not going to recruit that many that are willing to kill themselves. Recruiting for religious zealots can't be all that easy.

Nonetheless the few that they do recruit (the 19 on 911) is a one time event.

I agree they are dangerous, but we don't need to go bankrupt fighting them. We don't need to give up our individual liberties to fight them. We do not need to change our values to fight them. We don't need to promote torture to fight them.

We have to be smart about this.
