Retail is not the cure.

Agreed, the machines get too old just waiting on the shelf.
However it becomes difficult to differentiate yourself on the web with just a picture. I think Dell has shown that there is only so much you can do by only discounting price. They are going to have to have a really innovative web site, that could distinguish them from others with an ad and a cheap supplier.
