Having retired from the Street now for 6 years, I was amused by how fast some of the derivatives have sprouted. Over the last few weeks when the sub-primes have started crumbling, CDO's or those derivatives that repackage the junk loans such that different class of debt investors can share in the risk have widened as well. What was curious to me was that there are now derivatives that protects these CDO and they are now quite active after this sub-prime scare.

So, when things eventually fall, every domino will have some lingering effect thus prolonging the agony. Worse is the Congressional bantering that will take years if not decades to understand what happened.

If not for services like Bloomberg and Reuters that I use, I cannot follow anything. Just not enough hours everyday. Tougher as I age.
