Lindy, the article that started this discussion mentioned Greenland as a way to illustrate that climate fluctuates naturally. The poorly worded opening paragraph implies that Greenland was ice free at the time the Vikings arrived, but the huge island was almost totally ice covered then just as it is now. The so called "warm paradise" was just a couple of ice free southern fiords where a few thousand Vikings managed to eke out a precarious living by farming and fishing for a few hundred years. I think TigerPaw has gone off on a tangent with his arguments about the Vikings versus the Inuit. You are enjoying the debate because it lets discredit your opponent. But it avoids real debate about the science of human-caused global warming. The problem is that we are adding greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane to the atmosphere at an accelerating rate. According to the theory, this will cause rising global temperatures. Within that context there is plenty of room for climate volatility due to natural forces. But over the long term, average global temperatures will rise and disrupt the normal natural cycles. Do you accept the idea that CO2 and methane act as greenhouse gases?
