It seems that their recent blast is a fruit of the plutonium program they started early during the Reagan years (and the small quantity of plutonium that China gave to them back in the early 'eighties)... you known, the program that the Clinton foreign policy cut a deal to put on ice, and under constant IAEC video monitoring.

NOT... the mythical 'uranium program' alleged to have bypassed the Clinton treaty, the story of which inflamed so much hot air in Washington in recent years... (and caused the Bushies to pull out of the agreement).

NOTE: the 'new' agreement that is not even inked yet, is pretty much the same as the old one... but apparently we are now coming to the realization that the 'N.K. uranium program' never got off of the ground.

Probably for a variety of logical reasons:

1) Uranium enrichment is WAY EXPENSIVE. (N.K. doesn't really have the financial resources).

2) DESPITE buying plans for enrichment centrifuges from the Khan Network in our 'good ally' PAKISTAN', and perhaps a dozen or so machines... it still would take thousands of centrifuges to produce viable quantities of uranium sufficiently enriched for fission weapons.

SECOND NOTE: It made a Hell of a good blackmail/bluff though for N.K.! :-(
