No, it's the fear du jour. Nobody is allowed to stand against the popularity of the latest fear. If the government says Iran is to be feared, the media will dramaticize that Iran is to be feared, and the pundits and politicians are not going to rock the boat.

Yeah, and the worst example of this was with the Dubai-based company taking over the British company that managed some US ports. I have no special knowledge of the inside workings and management of the Dubai-based company, but the likelihood that they would use the company to attack US ports is about as likely as IBM selling computer hardware into Iran, and then using the IBM salespeople to assassinate Iranian leadership, or something ridiculous like that.
