The Old Testament is full of prescriptions for day to day living. There were rules covering diet, worship, marriage, divorce, hospitality, and so on. These are all referred to as 'God's laws'. The New Testament introduces Christ as the bearer of a new covenant between man and God. Over time most of the rituals, laws and customs of early Jewish life fade away and aren't really replaced for the most part.
