Steve,

Regarding how DVD will affect other drive makers:

I don't see any reason at this point to believe that DVD poses any threat except to the current CD-ROM we all probably have in our computers.

All the news so far about "affordable" DVD has also been the Read Only Memory (ROM) type. I would expect the writeable or rewriteable types to be much more expensive. Although we have had recordable CD for some time, nobody owns one because they are cost prohibitive and slow.

Nevertheless, the market is full of those who don't think things through. There is the possibility of the "perception" of a threat. This could cause weakness in the stocks you mention. But I'm really just guessing here.

Until a real, affordable, rewriteable DVD comes along, there's no real risk. The other day, I heard an edition of Real Computing on public radio which discussed conventional disk drive media. It stated that by 2000 we'll have 100 Gigabyte drives at roughly today's disk drive prices.

I currently own SEG, IOM, and HMTT. I haven't seen anything so far regarding DVD that makes me want to sell them.

Thanks.

Stu B.

PS. How about HMTT? Not outlandish growth, but very much undervalued.
