GLOUCESTER, MA--(MARKET WIRE)--Mar 5, 2007 -- Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. For Institutional Investor's fourth annual ranking, Halliday was one of 60 financial chiefs across the country who scored the highest when portfolio managers and analysts were asked to identify the top-performing CFOs in America. Halliday was featured, along with other winning CFOs, in Institutional Investor magazine's February 2007 issue.

Institutional Investor polled portfolio managers and analysts at more than 400 of the world's biggest and most influential money management houses, retirement systems, foundations and endowments to find out who they considered the best financial executives in the country. Nearly 800 responded, representing $6.3 trillion in U.S. equity assets under management.

According to the magazine's article, "These asset managers were asked a simple question: Who is the best CFO in the sector (or sectors) for which you are responsible. The respondents gave their first, second and third choices, which were weighted to produce a score for each CFO."

Financially, Varian Semiconductor's market share gains drove the Company to 2006 records in sales, earnings and cash generation. Varian Semiconductor is the world's leader in ion implant market share -- more than twice that of its nearest competitor. The Company's superior products have resulted in, and should continue to result in, unprecedented market share gains.
