Mike - Re: "Cyrix/NSM or AMD/MOT (if it happens) will pose serious
challenges to Intel during the next couple years."

This supposed THREAT by Cyrix and AMD has been around for a long time - probably a lot longer time than you have ever heard of Cyrix.

What is Cyrix's market share today?
What are Cyrix's profits/losses?

What is AMD's market share today?
What are AMD's profits/losses?

All you need to look at is what the facts are - these two companies are weak and they occasionally cough up a product that they convince some naive analysts and investors and a few customers will be an INTEL KILLER.

Where are these Intel Killers today? The 6x86, the 6x86MX, the K5, the K6, the MediaGX? They are ALL LOSING MONEY. PERIOD.

Profits - a simple word, a simple concept. Cyrix and AMD do not know how to make profits on a consistent, sustained basis.

Profits are the goal - but you think killing Intel is the goal.

These companies need to generate profit, pure and simple. Intel is merely a distraction.

If they can't make profits, how are they going to survive? National Semi does not gurantee profits to Cyrix. They may keep this leaky ship afloat for a while longer, but NSM is not going to go down the tubes duking it out with Intel.

They're not stupid! (Well, then again, they did buy Cyrix, so maybe I'm wrong about that).
