how have we not kept it [up ?] with the rest of the world on solar power. John, we are sucking hind tit on all alternate energy options. The last 6 years have been a complete disaster for the US! While we are sinking our resources into trying to lock up oil in the ME, other countries are spending their resources on developing environmentally friendly alternate energy sources. Spain especially is aggressive and this effort is coming from the government! Germany and Spain are the winners in wind power, Brazil the winner in developing ethanol, several countries are cleaning our clock in nuclear as well as solar. I think China will be the winner in solar technology, but who knows?
