STANFORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1996--Cyrix
Corporation (NASDAQ: CYRX) revealed, at the Hot Chips Symposium,
technical details regarding implementation of MMX multimedia
technology in its upcoming M2 processor.
Specifically, Cyrix's MMX implementation is software-compatible
with the industry standard spec published earlier this year, and will
provide an innovative level of performance to accelerate multimedia
applications such as DVD and video conferencing, as well as real-time
video on the Internet.
MMX-compatibility is one of the key features of Cyrix's
next-generation processor, code-named M2, which will be released
later this year, with production expected in early '97. MMX consists
of 57 new instructions to accelerate multimedia functions, including
audio processing, video decompression and graphics. |
