Iraqi politics" put Saddam in charge?

Force and intimidation put Saddam in charge.

That's right. Force and intimidation go hand in hand in Iraqi politics. In fact, that behavior is very typical of ME politics in general.

No one who knows Iraq's history well would have recommended invasion.

That isn't true. That whole type of statement (No one who X, would Y) is frequently false and this case isn't an exception.

Let me amend that statement....."few" who know Iraq's history would have recommended invasion.

You would probably do better to just state your opinion, rather than to try to claim that no knowledgeable person would disagree with your opinion.

No. Its absolutely fine with "few". It didn't take a genius to see the invasion would fail. All it took was some knowledge of the region and its history. And please don't come back and say it hasn't failed. It has failed miserably. We are up to our eyeballs in disaster.

Also your ignoring my point again. Whether or not the invasion was a good idea, removing Saddam from power isn't deciding what's best for the people of Iraq, its letting them decide what's best.

So what? Who cares? It doesn't change the fact that the war is a disaster.
