What did you expect? They were going to be treated like someone arrested for a crime in this country? With clerks and fixed procedures? Get real. This was "Fog of War." They were treated better than they should have been.

I haven't made any comment on their treatment, so I don't know why you are directing these statements at me. This whole line of discussion came up from some writer calling the detainees in Gitmo 'terrorists'. They are not. They haven't been proven to be terrorists, and haven't even been proven to be insurgents. They haven't even been alleged to be anything (there are no charges against them, as far as I know).

After 5 years their strategic value has got to be pretty low. It was probably pretty low after 3 months of detention. The US government should either charge them with something and prosecute them ASAP, or let them go. The current system of detaining them indefinitely without charge does more harm to the USA than benefit, IMO.
