But if they are enemy combatants, then if we let them go they will very likely go to Iraq and make IEDs, or suicide bomb Shia or American troops. So how can we let them go?

You're making quite a leap if you think everybody in Gitmo would do that if released. Maybe you're correct, but who knows? We have no idea how Joe Marine decided who gets captured and sent to Gitmo, so it's hard to say.

If the US government has some reason to believe that the detainees will do what you say if released, then they should share with us (the US public) that evidence. Without any information, I say we should let them go. If there is a good reason to keep them, let us know the basis of the reason.

It was never usual in any war to let POWs go while hostilities were still ongoing, unless in exchange. And AQ doesn't take prisoners, so exchanges won't happen.

What are you talking about? There is no ongoing war with the USA and the Gitmo detainees "side". If the detainees have made statements indicating that they will dedicate themselves to the destruction of all things American, let us know that fact.

We shouldn't hold people indefinitely without charge because they "might be" dangerous. If there are indicators that the detainees "probably are" dangerous, share them with us. That's a very reasonable recommendation given the extremely unAmerican nature of unlimited detention without charge. My view is if the administration is unwilling to share the justification for holding the Gitmo detainees, then they should not hold them any more. 5 years is long enough.
