Peak gold?

busrep.co.za

Very strange that with prices so high, production is dropping. Is there no more gold to be found, at least in South Africa?

Having worked in gold exploration myself I can tell you it's not that there are no more deposits out there, it's just that gold deposits are hard to evaluate by surface exploration. The mining companies figure that with prices so high, they're making a good profit with what they've got, why blow it on a lot of exploration work that might not pay off?

The gold price will have to stay high for many years to make mine development sustainable again.
