I think that we can agree, the woman who is sentenced to ninety lashes is not getting punished for having been raped. At least not officially. The men who raped her were tried, convicted, and punished for raping her. You and I can agree that 90 lashes for sneaking off with a man in 2007 seems barbaric, from the perspective of Americans; and it is my honest hope that the Saudi culture will evolve to more modernized views of equality.

She has been sentenced for committing what that culture views as an illicit act. Even though the Saudi courts are corrupt, IMO, because of the publicity, I would bet a years pay (if I were a better) that the sentence will removed by the mercy of the court for one of dozens of legal mercies that are allowed.

Implying that she is being whipped for having been raped is like Ward Churchill's defense that he was kicked out of CU in violation of his right to freedoms of speech. Neither complaint is true. Ward was kicked out of CU for committing fraud, which is separate from the fact that he called the victims of Twin Towers bombings 'Little Eichmans'. G was sentenced for a crime (in Saudi), which is separate from the fact that she was also raped. I hope the court shows mercy and that archaic law is changed.
