NEC To Ship Dual Pentium II Server

NEC Computer Systems Division Wednesday debuted
another server model in its Express5800 line. Shipping
next month, the midrange MT2200 is based on dual
Pentium II processors. It is aimed at departmental and
small enterprise shared-business and electronic
commerce applications.

The MT2200 model supports two 233-MHz and 300-MHz
Pentium II processors with 512 kilobytes of Level 2 cache
and 512 megabytes of ECC memory. It also includes six
PCI and four ISA expansion slots, six hot-swappable disk
bays each supporting 2-, 4-, or 9-gigabyte Ultra Wide
SCSI disks for as much as 54 GB of disk capacity.

An entry-level configuration, with a single 233-MHz
Pentium II processor with 512 KB of Level 2 cache, 64 MB
of ECC memory, a 10/100 Ethernet adapter, and a 4-GB
hard drive, has a starting price of $4,997. A 300-MHz
Pentium II configuration begins at $7,816.
