What I would like to hear from critics of releasing them is why they should be released and how can we be assured that none will be involved in or parties to future killings and bombings of innocent people throughout the world.

I think you mean critics of detaining them. And....since we don't know why it was decided to detain them, and not detain the guy next to them, it's pretty hard to answer. My guess is what the detainees have shown is that if a foreign military (in this case, us) comes charging into the town where they live, and they have weapons, they will attack the invading military. THAT is what they did in Afghanistan, right?

If they did more than that, why doesn't our government let us know?
