It is a question of why they should be released.

I've written why I think they should be released here:

Message 23350607

how can we be assured that none will be involved in or parties to future killings and bombings of innocent people throughout the world.

How can I be assured that you will not be involved in future killings of innocent people? I can't. Shall we lock you up indefinitely?

They are POW's of the war on terrorism

That's just a stupid claim. You're confusing a real war (which produces real, captured POWs) with the jargon Bush uses to describe his policies. The war on terrorism is not a real "war" in any normal usage of the word any more than the 'war on drugs' or the 'war on poverty' or the 'war on low math scores amongst elementary school children' is a normal war, and the usage of the term 'War on Terror' will likely vanish as soon as the next President of the USA is elected. To say that we have POWs in the War of Drugs would be stupid, same thing with any war on any idealogical viewpoint.

Anyway, does it imply that the Gitmo detainees are somehow involved in terrorism? If so, why can't our government tell us how they know that the detainees were involved in terrorism? It has been 5 years of detention - it's not an outrageous request to know why the US thinks the detainees are terrorists (which I think is your justification for holding them).
