Waxman To Hold Hearings

Henry Waxman wants to make sure the politicized Libby trial segues quickly to politicized Congressional hearings:

Libby's trial raises questions about whether officials including Cheney and White House political adviser Karl Rove "complied with the requirements governing the handling of classified information," Waxman told Fitzgerald in the letter.

Hmm - the Armitage leak might make one worry that the State Dept. had a problem handling classified info, too. But it doesn't worry Waxman!

I have no idea what the witness list might look like or how the topics might be controlled, but if I were an evil Rep Strategist (Aren't I?) I would focus on two things:

1 - What was the real thrust of the Fitzgerald investigation - was there ever any serious chance of an Espionage Act or IIPA charge, why were Armitage and Fleischer ignored, why were Dickerson and Gregory never called ,and so on.

2 - What are the prospects for returning to an era where we have some expectation of protections for the press? (The press is a natural ally of the Reps for some concerted Fitzgerald-bashing on this one.)
