Some decades ago, in the time before our time, I was working in a Southern California hospital when it received several serious injuries from a construction site accident. A construction wall had collapsed on several people. The sole reason for said wall collapse was that the workers were unable to understand or speak or read English. Because of the number of victims and the scope of their injuries, the news media became interested. The then Big Three showed up with news teams and their cameras. The newspeople attempted to get stories from the victims and discovered they were unable to understand or speak English. This was brought to the attention of Immigration and commanded that agency's immediate attention, and they too showed up at our humble little community hospital to investigate. This tragedy was featured on the 6:00 and 11:00 news that night. All in all, it was a very big deal to everyone at the time. Those WERE the days, in the time before our time. - Holly
