"The bigger scandal, however, almost surely involves prosecutors still in office."

This has been overlooked, so far. And it is a logical extension of the firings.

I dunno about you, but I find this phrase extremely creepy: "In fact, it’s becoming clear that the politicization of the Justice Department was a key component of the Bush administration’s attempt to create a permanent Republican lock on power.". Nobody seems to care much about what is literally an attempt to overthrow the government. Heck, DeLay used to brag about it, and so have other congresscritters. Now, I will grant you that the Democrats had a pretty solid lock on power for decades. But they didn't plan on the Republicans being in power when the Great Depression struck, plus the Republican habit of being on the wrong side of every major issue, including WWII, from the 1930s through the 1950s. Are we supposed to sit around with our thumbs in an uncomfortable place, while one of the parties plots to take over the government? In public, no less?
