Its standard for parole/probation to require abstinence from drugs and do drug tests. I presume drug legalization would do away with this - after drug use would be legal so folks on parole/probation could use all they want.

Maybe, maybe not. Parole conditions can include restrictions on things that aren't generally illegal to do.

Now what about childrens protective services - when they intervene and remove children from a parent or set of parents, they often require drug testing, abstinence from drug use, and in cases require drug counseling programs.

What do they do if the problem was someone having a severe alcahol problem? Alcahol's harder to test for but might they require couseling and perhaps other steps?
