WavePhore Newscast to Become Premier Business Channel For Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Fast-growing online business intelligence service Newscast Today will become a premier business channel for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, today announced WavePhore Newscast, a division of WavePhore, Inc. (Nasdaq:WAVO).
WavePhore Newscast reached an agreement with Microsoft Corp. for users of Internet Explorer 4.0 to have ``one-click'' access to the Web-based Newscast Today, which is the emerging leader in delivering business intelligence services to corporate subscribers for enterprise-wide use. Newscast Today will become available as a premier business channel for Internet Explorer 4.0 in December of this year.
Through the alliance with Microsoft, Newscast Today subscribers using Internet Explorer 4.0 will have immediate access to the online service, as well as to an Active Desktop component that displays a personalized set of headlines and stock quotes which scroll across a user's desktop. This alerting feature will help Newscast Today users stay abreast of breaking news and financial market conditions throughout the business day.
The Newscast Today channel will also be available to users of the Internet Explorer Administration Kit. The Internet Explorer Administration Kit is version 4.0 of Microsoft's utility program for Internet Explorer, which enables customization of Internet Explorer for distribution within an organization and/or to third parties. This will allow businesses who wish to utilize premier business channels, such as Newscast Today, to readily customize Internet Explorer to receive these channels, including placing the Newscast Today channel directly on the Channel Bar on the Internet Explorer Active Desktop.
``We are excited to have been chosen as a premier business channel through our alliance with Microsoft,'' said David E. Deeds, Chairman, President and CEO of WavePhore, Inc. ``Internet Explorer 4.0 is expected to become a major force in the corporate computing environment, and the easy access to Newscast Today through Internet Explorer 4.0 will be a real catalyst for our service's continued growth.''
``We're very pleased to have WavePhore Newscast Today as a premier Active Channel partner for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0,'' said Brad Chase, vice president, application and Internet client group at Microsoft. ``The high caliber of its up-to-the-minute business intelligence content provides an engaging Web experience for Internet Explorer users.''
Newscast Today offers business news and information drawn from more than 3,000 leading newswires, newspapers, business publications, broadcasts, financial data providers, and government regulatory authorities, as well as information posted on thousands of business-oriented Internet newsgroups. The service includes features that allow each user to customize profiling filters that automatically capture and display relevant documents from the flow of more than 30,000 articles, reports, and transcripts added to the system each day. Newscast Today also includes the capability to e-mail articles and reports to others within a corporation.
