Removing Saddam, not as a threat to his people, but as a potential threat - which turned out to be as false as the WMD 'mushroom cloud'. Clinton was obviously right - isolation and quarantine - and it worked. Even though Clinton and Gore may have thought that Saddam had WMD, they did the RIGHT thing, and Saddam was no longer a threat.

Elections to the Iraqis? That one is too laughable to comment on.

It was about perceived stability, and western influence, in an oil-rich region. Period.

Of course, with his many blunders, Bush has made it so much more now. He has really 'screwed the pooch'.
