Giuliani, McCain Lead Clinton, Obama in 2008 Presidential Poll

March 9 (Bloomberg) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Senator John McCain, both Republicans, lead Democratic Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in a new poll gauging 2008 presidential preferences.
The American Research Group poll of 2,104 likely voters found Giuliani leads Clinton by 6 points, 48 percent to 42 percent, and Obama by 5 points, or 46 percent to 41 percent.
McCain is ahead of Clinton by 3 points, at 45 percent to 42 percent, and leads Obama by 4 points, 46 percent to 42 percent.
The March 2-5 poll by the Manchester, New Hampshire-based group has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.
Separately, the poll surveyed 600 likely Democratic and 600 likely Republican primary voters. Among the Democrats, New York Senator Clinton held the lead, at 34 percent, and Illinois Senator Obama was a close second, at 31 percent. Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards received 15 percent.
The survey found a similar split on the Republican side, with 34 percent selecting Giuliani and 30 percent backing McCain. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Georgia Republican, came in third at 12 percent. |
