This is ACADEMICS. It's supposed to be contentious. It's supposed to be open. What in the world is too open in ACADEMICS.

In order for this guy to be credible, he has to take up the banner for BOTH SIDES. All he's doing is whining about Muslims and 'Islamists' when he knows (or should know) darn well that there are extremists on all sides because extremism isn't a function of ethnicity or race or religion. It's a function of being human.

"At present, the Academy simply refuses to discriminate against the morally despicable, and remains determined to invite the worst sorts of misinformers to air their views under the banner of intellectual inquiry."

Many would say that many Neocons and members of the Bush administration are morally despicable. Should they be eliminated from appearing at all such functions? I think they're morally despicable but I think they should be heard in public forums. I think they should be heard, heard often and debated often.

It's the debate in ACADEMICS that makes the difference. Closing off 1/2 of the debate just because this guy disagrees with it on a personal level is nothing but censorship.

If some theocrat from Iran gets up in front of a college audience and states that homosexuals should be executed, exactly how much credibility will his views be given? Why is this guy so afraid of educated people making up their own minds?

Is he afraid that educated minds will disagree with him? Is this why he wants censorship? Given this kind of language:

"surrendering a podium to one of the most oppressive, belligerent regimes on the planet...

A representative of an evil ideology has no interest in the pursuit of knowledge...

From the alliance between the Arabs of Palestine and the Third Reich that formed before the founding of the State of Israel."

it's easy to see what his own propaganda motives are. He's so skewed to one side that his yammerings about decency aren't credible.
