This is ACADEMICS. It's supposed to be contentious. It's supposed to be open. What in the world is too open in ACADEMICS

Well, that's his main point, that the contentiousness inherent in academics is being replaced by the sonanmbulism inherent in multiculturalism and the unthinking acceptance of the intolerant in the name of PC.

You forget that academics teach, that like the fundamentalist textbooks, they have a lot of influence over those they teach. And the vast majority of those they teach do not end up being scholars but everyday Joes who vote.

So, yes, what academics do and say and teach is important for the reasons I described. I'll be terribly disappointed if today's college students end up thinking like zombies because they have been inculcated with no means of using a moral balance.
