(Off topic) Scott, I don't understand how anything much changes with shorting -against-the-box. I mean, if you want to lock in gains and defer taxes, you can still initiate a short position in the stock you are long on. You have not cashed in on the long so you don't pay taxes, yet you effectively lock in the gain. It may affect margin requirements in that you are not borrowing against your stock necessarily, but what's the big deal with this new tax law vis a vis shorting-against-the-box?
